Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine are used worldwide as a primary and complementary form of medical treatment. While Western medicine relies on "boilerplate" treatment protocols for many conditions, Chinese medicine focuses on identifying the overall pattern of signs and symptoms. Our style of acupuncture focuses on rebalancing these patterns of disharmony that are ultimately responsible for your condition. We also place an emphasis on calming the mind and emotions that co-exist with most pain and internal medical conditions. Treatments are tailored to your specific needs.

The tools of Chinese Medicine include Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Tuina Bodywork and Nutrition. All of these tools may be employed in your treatment depending on the nature of the condition and the presenting signs during your visit.

According to Chinese Medicine theory, the insertion of thin sterile needles into the skin assists in balancing your bodily functions. Other related techniques commonly used are moxibustion (the warming of acupuncture points by burning of special herbs), cupping (the application of suction cups to increase circulation), and mild electrical stimulation of the needles.  Only disposable, sterile, stainless steel needles are used.

What to Expect …

While many of our acupuncture patients say they barely feel anything, some describe a slight tingling or a vague tugging or aching feeling that usually lasts no longer than a few minutes. The needles are usually left in place between 30 and 50 minutes. Our patients often report feeling completely relaxed and calm after their treatments. Most patients wear loose comfortable clothing and appointments generally last about an hour.

Conditions Treated …

Many common conditions respond well to acupuncture treatments. These conditions include Fibromyalgia, neck pain, back pain, GI disorders, OB/GYN conditions, infertility, menopause, skin disorders, the common cold or flu, headaches, depression, anxiety, insomnia and stress.
